November Student Profile
This month we are shining the spotlight on AAWEP student, Tenille Beadman. Tenille has completed her Diploma of Event Management and is currently studying towards her Wedding Planning Certificate. Earlier this year she launched Ezy Events which is a Event Management/Event Decorating & Hire Company located in Brisbane, Qld.
Tenille took some time out from her busy life as a Mum, business owner and Event Planner to talk to Christine Kerr of Event Experts & the Academy of Wedding and Event Planning.
Congratulations on launching Ezy Events earlier this year. Tell us some more about the business.
I launched Ezy Events in Jan 2009 and I am proud to say we are going strong! I have had many Events through-out this year and more already booked for 2010. I have been doing that well I actually had to go part-time at my “normal” job to be able to keep up! My goal is to very soon be able to run Ezy Events full-time and get a shop front/warehouse to store all my hire and decorating items, with a small decorating retail shop so I really can deliver on my company promise which is “Ezy Events The Complete Event & Decorating Solution”.
It has been a big year for you Tenille, what does it mean to you to be working in this industry and pursuing your dream.
This means such a great deal to me, I can see how well I am doing, I have never been happier and I even get comments from my family, friends and kids on how proud of me they are that I have achieved what I have been wanting to do for so long….I also get a kick when my clients give me glowing testimonials and referral business.
Working in this Industry also give me the time to spend with my Kids in the afternoon and do all those Mummy things you don’t want to miss out on, it is very easy to fit in client meeting during school hours or after hours, and send all your emails and type up your quotes when your kids are safety tucked into bed !
What advice would you give to others considering studying with the Academy and taking that first step towards a career within the Events industry?
Don’t go into this industry half hearted have a passion for what you are about to do…It is not all that glamorous sometimes but when you see a smile on the clients face from ear to ear it makes it all worthwhile.
I also would do a few courses to do with Event Management & Wedding Planning (thru the Academy of course) and even take up a small business course or financial course if you are going to start your own business.
Network ….get out there see your local business, go to wedding expos get your name and face in the industry, and also join Industry associations; these are very helpful and impressive to have on your advertising material – most associations have student rates as well if you are studying to make it more affordable
Volunteer… ask a local planner if they need any help for an Event/Wedding coming up this will give you insight to the exciting and sometimes not so exciting part up managing and running an Event.
What is your personal motto?
“Just living the dream baby!”
Thanks for your time Tenille. We wish you all the best with the business and look forward to watching your progress through the rest of the course and beyond!
